9 English Research Project Assignment
An Inspirational Person
Read a book on the person you have chosen. In addition to the book, you need to use three (3) other sourcessuch as; magazine, newspaper, internet. You may use any one of these twice for a total of 5 sources.

Be prepared to submit a 3-5 page typed report on: An Inspirational Person.
Format of final paper:
*Double spacing (no extra spaces between paragraphs)
*size 12 font
*Times New Roman
*1 inch margins
*Black ink
*left justified

*Pages numbered in MLA format

You will also complete a Source Packet. This will include your 5 sources, your 6 quotes (one of which will be a block quote) and your 4 entries for transitions, influences, strengths and weaknesses. This packet will have a total of 15 entries worth 15 points.
*At your discretion, you may use NoodleTools.com to compile your 5 sources.

Include the following sections in your report:
*Cover page (separate lines, centered, double-spaced) include: Title, your name, teacher’s name, the course name, and the date. (5 pts.)
*Introduction: Explain why you were attracted to research/ read about this
individual’s life. Is this person a role model to you and your goals and interests?
Has this person’s life had a positive impact on your life, goals and interests?
Relate this discussion, if appropriate, to your personal goals and interests.
Mention any preliminary information that you may have had that helped you to
decide on this person. Include a thesis statement. (10pts.)
*Body paragraphs please include the following information: (40pts.)
1. QUOTES: 6 direct quotes used in context to support your thesis.
This must include one long block quote (MLA format, from your
book).
2. Transitions in the person’s life such as: success or lack of, environment,
and new challenges.
3. Influential people in the person’s life such as: family, friends, coaches,
mentors, and enemies.
4. Strengths such as: integrity, valor, perseverance
5. Weaknesses such as: poor judgment, selfishness, intolerance
*Conclusion: Use more sophisticated transitional words and phrases. Make a clear
and concise statement that connects your research to your introduction. End with
a statement that reveals a personal and global impact of your inspirational person.
