Eso es lo que vamos a averiguar�

Objetivo: To learn about the culture(s) we come from, our ancestors, and the history of our family.

Trabajo: You will spend two class periods in the library researching key points in your own family�s history, the history of your culture, and how it relates to the history of the United States. You may also need to ask your family members for some of this information. You will be responsible for finding the following information:

q What country/countries are your ancestors from?
q Who was the first in your family to come to the United States? (How would you answer this question if some or all of your family is Native American?)
q What factors led to your family�s decision to migrate to the United States? (historical, monetary, political, etc.)

q What was going on in the United States when your family arrived?

search for decade--1930s, or Chicago 1950, 1898.

q Did they arrive through Ellis Island or elsewhere? Please explain.
q How did you end up here in the Warwick area? Did you recently move here from somewhere else, or has your family been here for several generations?
q What are some typical foods and drinks from your culture that you enjoy? When do you eat/drink them?

Type in "foods of ...'name of country' " Ex. foods of Brazil or Italy food or Italy recipes

q Find at least two other foods that are from your culture that you�ve never had before and explain why or why not you would try them if you had the chance.
q An interesting story or anecdote about your family or ancestors to tell the class.

Presentaci�n: You will present your project either Wednesday, April 4th or Thursday, April 5th. Your presentation must include the following:

q All the information collected from above in English.
q One of the following in Spanish:

  • Bring in a typical food from your culture � you must tell the class the ingredients, when it�s typically eaten, and why you decided to bring this dish in.
OR
  • Bring in a show and tell item that is from your culture � explain where it came from, how and why it is important, and what it means in your culture and/or family.
OR
  • Make a video montage of photos of your family � narrate in Spanish explaining how each is related to you, where he/she lives, and what they do for a living

La nota: You will be graded solely on your oral presentation. As you present, be sure to include all of your information. Use intonation in your voice and be as creative as you can be.
